How Becoming a Virtual Assistant Transformed My Life as a Solo Mom

I am a solo parent of three. Yes, I am a supermom to my kids. It has never been easy handling the role of two in one body. There have been many sacrifices, pain, tears, and heartaches. But who am I to complain about such struggles as a solo parent? I believe God has a plan for why He chose me to be their mother. I remember back then, I experienced borrowing money from different people to buy milk and other essentials for my kids. I had to work two jobs to earn enough since I was financially responsible for everything alone. Now, tears are flowing as I reminisce every single detail of those hardships.

If I were an animal, I would be a flamingo when it comes to a mother's love and a lioness in terms of strength and leadership. Flamingos can lose their pink pigments outside of the breeding season because so much of their food is used for their chicks. This mirrors my dedication and sacrifices to selflessly nurture my kids. Like a lioness, I embody strength, leadership, resilience, protectiveness, and adaptability. I lead, protect, and care for my family and my team.

I started as an accounting staff at different companies, which honed my skills in accounting and finance. Then, when the BPO industry boomed in the Philippines, I took my chance and applied. With all the hard work and perseverance, I achieved four promotions.

When the pandemic came, the world of virtual assistance opened up many opportunities, especially for Filipinos. So, I said to myself, "I will give it a try; this might be the best opportunity for someone like me who can enjoy working while balancing my time with my kids." I could save more money by not traveling back and forth to onsite offices and not spending too much on food.

I started as any aspiring virtual assistant would—with zero knowledge. But with my children as my inspiration since day one, I focused on training, learning, and growing as a virtual assistant, gaining experience in different niches. No one can take away the knowledge I have gained. I have honed myself to be the best version of me as a professional. I get to enjoy my life, watching every step of my kids' success, their pains, struggles, and happiness. All of this has been visible to my eyes because of the privilege of being a virtual assistant, working in the most comfortable place—our home. I believe in the saying, "Never stop learning, because life never stops teaching." As I continue learning all sides of being a VA, I am also learning every day about myself as a mom and discovering new adventures with my kids.

I am the happiest version of myself as a solo parent. Why? Because now, even though it will take a longer road to reach the end, I am confident that being a solo parent will not hinder anyone from becoming the best version of themselves. My work as a virtual assistant gives me all the perks of a true work-life balance. I am proud to be a virtual professional, helping people focus on growing their businesses while I take care of the rest.

I would also like to take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude to my family, especially my mom and dad, for being my companions in raising my kids. With all my heart, thank you so much!
